| | You can dig it even in GermanJune 24, 2009 - Jessica VanderKolkWe haven't heard a ton of German music here, because many shops and restaurants play American and British music. But we did hear two cool German groups while on our road trip north. You can bet a CD will make it into my luggage. First, one of our favorite's from Peter Fox's album, Stadtaffe (literally, "city ape") "Haus am See" = House on the Lake First lines: "I was born here and walk through the streets." First lines of one version of the chorus (at about 2:25): "The moon shines bright on my house on the lake." Second, Wise Guys, an a cappella group which does some funny covers, including this one, of Michael Jackson's Thriller. It's called Schiller, referring to the German writer Friedrich Schiller. (The song starts at about 1:45 in the video.) Here's the chorus, roughly translated: "Yeah it is Schiller. Schiller writes so dreadfully complicated. And sometimes downright smug. Yeah it is Schiller. Schiller makes me die from boredom. I read every line three times." Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article. Post a Comment | |
