| | Enjoying the cityJune 20, 2009 - Jessica VanderKolkAs our final month in Germany begins, we're making a mental list of all the things we want to enjoy (at least) one more time before we leave. We realized a few of those items today, during a leisurely lunch and shopping expedition around Marburg's upper city (the vintage Oberstadt). First, lunch at a place offering "Mar-burgers" ... turkey and veggie were on our plates today, along with the traditional ketchup and mayonnaise for our fries. We grab outdoor seating whenever possible and enjoy watching people pass by (high schoolers in their punk dress, folks walking their dogs, shoppers and strollers of all ages). We also watched the No. 16 bus, on it's way to the castle, work the brakes while squeezing through the outdoor seating on both sides of the street. Hats off to that driver. Next, it was off to the local department store, in the hopes it carried a particular brand of marzipan (the almond-based sweet treat) made in the northern city of Lübeck for more than 200 years. To our delight, we found it and purchased a couple bars. Finally, it was off to pick up dark and delicious Brötchen (bread rolls) for Sunday breakfast, a much-loved tradition. Grab an ice cream cone for the walk home and our day is complete. There's so much to love about Germany. What do you love about a place you've lived or visited?
