| | WiesbadenJune 2, 2009 - Jessica VanderKolkGermans in our state of Hessen celebrated Pfingsten (Pentecost) this weekend, resulting in a state holiday Monday, and a day off from our university courses. AGP and company took a trip to Wiesbaden, Hessen's capital city, to meet with friends and check out a new area. We'll be back with photos from our camera, but check out these highlights for today: • Wiesbaden literally translates to "meadow baths." Our local friend and tour guide showed us a fountain of "healing water" hot enough to burn your hands, which flows from the earth below. People are allowed to take up to one liter per day and it's believed to give good health to the people who use it. • Like many German cities, Wiesbaden features a huge, gorgeous park, complete with pond and fountain, and big, grassy fields. Lots of people enjoyed yesterday's sunny weather here. • As on all holidays, just restaurants and cafés remained open for business. We chose Café Extra Blatt ("extra page" or "leaf"), where the chicken burger took up about half the large, oval plate. Salami slices on a pizza were nearly as large. It was delicious, as usual. *** Thanks to FCBayern for the memories yesterday. AGP's husband also says adding cola to beer isn't "real" beer, so you're not the only one appalled.
