Round 2 Game 3 Results

May 7, 2009 - Matt Leaper
Washington Capitals at Pittsburgh Penguins

Capitals Lead Series 2-1

A fluke goal in the first caused a major scare and it took at least 5 minutes before the Penguins regain their composure.  Though after that point, they dominated the Capitals.  They had chance after chance and if it wasn’t for some superb goaltending and creasing clearing by the defense, this game could easily of been 10-2.  The Penguins drew several retaliation penalties because of their hard work and hard hitting.  It should come as no surprise that the Penguins drastically outshot the Caps and out hit them.  With that said here are the stats.

Pittsburgh really controlled this game.  They played solid from the midway point of the first on.  If they continue to play this kind of game they will soon find holes in Varlamov.  Stay physical but stay disciplined and they will get to the Caps.

Washington came out strong but disappeared for a majority of the game.  If not for the questionable call on Dupuis they may of lost this game in regulation.  They need to find a way to shut down the speed of Pittsburgh or they will start to fall in this series.
