Totally "Lost": Previewing "Follow The Leader"

May 5, 2009 - Ray Eckenrode
Gearing up for Wednesday’s episode of “Lost”:
  Title: “Follow the Leader”
Significance: Considering how “The Variable” ended, it could be a reference to Jack reclaiming his island leadership role, but don’t forget when we last left Locke he got a pretty strong vote of confidence from Smokey to become the new leader of The Others.
Centricity: Usually this kind of info leaks well before an episode, but we’re still guessing on this one. For the reasons above, we’ll guess Locke. Also, the number and variety of sneak peeks this week suggest the episode may not have a central figure.
Plotline: Jack and Kate find themselves at odds over the direction to take to save their fellow island survivors, Locke further solidifies his stance as leader of "The Others," and Sawyer and Juliet come under scrutiny from the Dharma Initiative.
Sneak peeks: Five, count ‘em, five peeks this week (that’s about 10 percent of the episode), all include MAJOR spoilers, proceed with caution.

  Revelations and questions:
  > Revelation #1: As you might know, the “Lost” Powers That Be have taken to assigning silly code names to the secret, final scene of each season. The “We have to go back, Kate” flashforward was known as “The Rattlesnake in the Mailbox” while Ben moving the island last season was codenamed “The Frozen Donkey Wheel.” For what it’s worth, this year’s code name is “The Fork in the Outlet.” Not sure what they have in store for us, but over at EW.com, Kristin wrote this week that if what she’s hearing is true, it’s hard to imagine how there could be a Season 6.
  > Revelation #2: “The Variable” included one of the more bizarre and mysterious Easter Eggs in “Lost” history in the form of the image of a rabbit visible in Daniel’s water glass during his post-graduation dinner with his mother. You can click here to see it. Of course, white rabbits have been plentiful in “Lost” lore so you can draw your own conclusions about what, if anything, this one means.
  > Question #1: Now that we know he was a piano prodigy, could Faraday have been the one who programmed the “Good Vibrations” code into the Looking Glass Station?
  > Question #2: Should Penny have left little Charlie with that nurse?
