Neither team was able to gain a clear edge, that is until late in the third period when Alex the Great took over the game. Crosby tried to match him on every step but there where just too many red jerseys to quite and change momentum. There is no doubt that this was a great game. Both teams threw everything they had at the goalies and although it ended with 7 goals, these two goalies were fantastic. It says something when only 3 individuals can score in a hockey game. Now the stats…
Both teams battled hard but in the end it was a very tired Penguin team. The stars just didn’t seem to have the energy or will to do much late in the third. Crosby was able to score a goal out of desperation but they just couldn’t control the puck enough to get a quality chance to tie the game. Washington battled for every inch of space and in the end the difference was the third line. They just gave that slight edge over the Penguins. Varlamov is proving every game that he deserves the chance he is getting. Some might say that some of the saves he has made have been that of luck but, he had to be in those positions at those times in order to make those saves. Either way the Capitals have command of the series and just need to continue to play like they did in this game. Pittsburgh on the other hand needs to come into game 3 with a lot of desperation. They need goal production from someone other than Sydney Crosby. Next Game Wednesday, May 6th @ 7 on Versus Update: Kunitz will not be suspended by the league. It was annouced today that the league did review the play but decided against any suspensions. Letang is listed as doubtfull for game 3. Byslma was quoted as saying that it is not an injury as much as an issue of strength. This could be a major blow as Letangs speed will be missed against a fast Capitals team. Article Comments(4)AdamGardeMay-06-09 7:54 AM I agree. I just think pens need to pick up their physical game. Also, I agree about hurting them but in a clean way. Dirty probably wasn't the right choice of word in my last post. Let's get this one tonight and go from there. MathewLeaperMay-05-09 4:34 PM @Adam, Thanks for the input and hopefully you will continue to follow the blog. I would agree that the Pens need to put some hurting on Ovechkin, Green, Semin and even Backstrom but not in a cheap way. I think players need to give each other some respect and intent to injure or head hunting just doesn't have a place in todays hockey. For instance, personally I am not very happy with Kunitz and his cross check to the head-neck area but I also can't say whether or not it was intentional. He was battling infront of the net and could of been trying to break free from a player when that player released him and thus he ended up connecting with Varlamov. Either way it didn't look good. I also don't think the Pens are done yet but they deffinetly need a boost and home sweet home could be that boost. AdamGardeMay-05-09 3:38 PM Pens need to punish Ovechkin and reestablish the physical game they had against Phlyers. Scratch Sykora and Get Goddard out there. Crapitals don't have Brashire to match up. This series is going to end the way it started if the Pens don't get gritty and dirty, that how I feel. PensLover87May-05-09 1:19 PM That game was great to watch. But the Pens need to play the whole game. The game on Wednesday better be GREAT. Or their season is done. The game on Wednesday is a white out. So remember to wear white on Wednesday. LET'S GO PENS!! Post a Comment | Blog Photos![]() |
