Start talking, please!

If you think "What's your sign?" (or any other gross pick-up line) is a lame ice breaker, try approaching someone in a bar with "Hi! I'm Ashley Gurbal, and I'm a reporter --"

You don't get much farther before the person either recoils or his eyes glaze over. These were the majority of responses when I ventured out with photographer Patrick Waksmunski to ask locals for their thoughts on "He's Just Not That Into You," a movie on dating and relationships that hits theaters today.

We weren't looking for any great insight. It's a chick flick that people are talking about -- and that's what we wanted to hear and what readers want to read: what people were saying. A number of people had great opinions, but when it came time to give their names, they practically dove under their barstools.

Finally, we did find a few folks with an opinion on the concept, and you can find their thoughts (and photos!) on D1 today.

So, this is my plea to you, altoonamirror.com readers: If you're approached by a reporter, consider giving them your opinion -- and your real name. We're not out to make you look stupid. I'm genuinely interested in giving you a voice in the community.
