| | Postcards from Pasadena: Is a 61-41 win better than 13-6?December 29, 2008 - Cory GigerThe country fell in love with the Big 12's explosive offenses this season. In our showoff era, a 61-41 win like Oklahoma had over Oklahoma State is considered much more appealing than Penn State's "boring" 13-6 win over Ohio State. I say that's ridiculous. You can't convince me a 61-41 game is good football. Good offense? No doubt. But not good football. Penn State coordinator Tom Bradley weighed in on the subject Sunday. "That's the way sports is," he said. "They like the excitement of the touchdowns and things. Maybe they don't see beauty of 13-6 games." Bradley went on to add, "I thought the Ohio State game was a great physical football game" and noted, "Defensive plays aren't ESPN-type plays." "A guy makes a great inside move … it's just not a good highlight to watch somebody come off a block or make a great tackle," Bradley said. I'll admit the offenses in the Big Ten are pretty boring sometimes. But bring those Southern teams up North to play in freezing temperatures in late October and November and see how effective their offenses will be.
