Paterno has glowing remarks about Pryor

October 21, 2008 - Cory Giger

If Joe Paterno has any hard feelings about Terrelle Pryor spurning Penn State, he certainly isn't letting on.

Paterno spoke in glowing terms Tuesday about Ohio State's freshman phenom quarterback from Jeannette. A few examples:

"I think he will be one of the really good quarterbacks we've had come out of this state."

"I think he is a heck of a player right now. I think he's got everything to be a great player. He's a good kid. He’s got a lot of poise and he handles pressure not only on the field, but also off the field. He knows what's going on, and each week he's getting better."

Comparing Pryor to Illinois' Juice Williams: "Pryor is so smooth. The other kid is a big, strong kid that goes up the gut a lot. Pryor is on the edge so much, and when he gets on the edge, he's so dangerous."

"Pryor has an awfully strong arm and quick release. When he takes off, he takes off. He's a tough guy to get. It's going to be interesting."

It certainly will be interesting, particularly in two key areas:

1. How Pryor handles this stage, the biggest of his life so far.

2. What kind of game plan defensive coordinator Tom Bradley comes up with to stop Pryor. It will be up to the defensive ends and outside linebackers to contain Pryor and not let him pick up big chunks of yardage.
