Ankrah, Hawkins not making trip

October 18, 2008 - Philip Cmor

Two of the high-profile uncommitted players that were expected to be at Penn State's game today with Michigan won't be at Beaver Stadium, after all.

Travis Hawkins and Jason Ankrah, teammates at Quince Orchard High School in Gaithersburg, Md., had top cancel their visits to Penn State for this weekend when their game Friday at Sherwood was postponed to today because of a power outage.

Ankrah is a 6-foot-3, 245-pound defensive end. Those following Penn State recruiting closely thought there was a good chance he'd make a verbal commitment to the Nittany Lions over the weekend.

Hawkins is considered one of the premier cornerback prospects in the nation, ranked No. 6 in the class by Scout.com. Penn State, though, is also looking at him as a potential slot receiver.

Hawkins has said he intends to make a decision in November and reportedly will enroll in January. Maryland is regarded as Penn State's chief competition, but sources have told me not to count our Oregon, either.
