Perhaps the one step too far

September 23, 2008 - Ashley Gurbal

At long last, "Sex and the City: The Movie" is released on DVD today. Admittedly, I'm going to pick up the extended cut, special two-disc set -- I loved the series and the movie even more so.

But I was a little bit disturbed last week when HarperCollins announced it would publish novels about Carrie Bradshaw's teen years.

I own the photo book about the movie. As for a sequel? I'd be into that; the first one was pretty open ended. I'm salivating over Pat Field's Home Shopping Network clothing line from the movie.

Carrie's teen years? I've never once thought about that, because those women weren't real. (Because if they were, do you really think they'd have been friends with Charlotte?) The characters worked so well because of their depth -- but this may be the one step too far, bordering on creepy.

Creepy or not, though, I know I'll end up picking up at least one of the books about teenage Carrie. Just, you know, out of curiosity.
