| | The Cool Thing to Do?September 2, 2008 - Mark LeberfingerAnother day, another shooting incident in Altoona. This time, it's on the 100 block of Second Avenue following a dispute between neighbors Tuesday, according to city police. Officers made an arrest after a brief standoff. One of our posters to the story Tuesday -- Sam410 -- asks, "Why is shooting your gun now the cool thing to do in the middle of Altoona?" Very good question. Over the last month, we've had numerous shooting incidents in the city. Only one person has been hurt. Shootings make news, but they're highly problematic for officers. Ask the ones who took cover Tuesday and early Saturday morning. Is this time for tougher gun restrictions like Gov. Rendell wants in Pennsylvania or is this shooting spree something that will come to pass just like it did two years ago in Altoona? Article Comments(3)StorminOct-06-08 3:43 AM There are gun laws now, that more than suffice. Take our guns, the criminal element will have them regardless. Take there guns, and we will see a lot of Columbines, ( bombs), stabbings, auto, ball bats and fire deaths. It's a moral issue. Not a gun issue. imovedawaySep-03-08 9:03 AM To solve the problem there needs to be a tougher laws ,and sentencing of criminals who use a fire arm in a crime. As CoryDobe said the criminals dont buy and register there guns..Take the criminals off the streets, keep them off and the shooting problem goes away. CoryDobeSep-02-08 4:14 PM Tougher gun restrictions are definitely not the answer. I will go out on a limb here and say that most of the stellar citizens shooting up the city did not acquire their firearms through proper channels. Post a Comment | |
