| | Publicity hound?February 13, 2008 - Kelly ValeriWell, Tammy Grimes is at it again. I said from the beginning that I wasn't sure where I stood on the issue of her taking a dog from someone else's yard — regardless of how sick and malnourished the animal appeared. I don't fault her for having good intentions, but her course of action was illegal and now she's going to have to pay the consequences. Or is she? The founder of Dogs Deserve Better said Wednesday that she won't pay the $1,742 cost of her trial if a judge orders her to do so. She said she would prefer, instead, to be sentenced to jail. I have to ask, what purpose would that serve? In a story on Page A10 of today's Mirror, District Attorney Richard Consiglio was quoted as calling Grimes a "publicity hound." I have to agree. Grimes has made national news with this case by being featured on "Inside Edition," and I'm sure it has translated to thousands of dollars in donations. Plenty to pay her fine. So I ask again, what purpose would it serve to serve jail time? More donations? Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article. Post a Comment | |
